When crop prices dropped farmers left their fields uncultivated. The farmers plows had uprooted the grass that held in the soils moisture. When a drought hit the plains there was no grass or wheat to hold the moisture in the soil. The soil dried up. From Dakota to Texas, the fields became a Dust Bowl. Fierce winds carried dust across the plains creating huge dust storms. Humans and animals caught outside were often suffocated because of the amount of dirt in their lungs. The dust storms ruined almost everything in it's path. Besides killing humans and animals, it covered crops that were growing causing them to die, clogging car engines. Making it impossibe to live a normal life.
